Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation

The Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation inspires the communities of South Georgian Bay to invest in the facilities, equipment, programs and services for the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital.

With 90% of all the Equipment and Technology at the G&M Hospital funded by community support, the Foundation successfully carries out many large fundraising initiatives to fund the hospital’s most critical needs.

Thank you for supporting CGMH and helping us provide outstanding care for life.

CGMH

Providing Care for our Community and Beyond

With more than 60,000 residents calling South Georgian Bay home and 3.5 million people visiting annually, having excellent health care in the region is a priority for residents and visitors. Our hospital serves everyone from The Blue Mountains to Wasaga Beach, from Collingwood, throughout Clearview Township, and into Grey Highlands.

We’re also one of the fastest growing – and changing – areas in Ontario:

Our community is expected to grow to 120,000 residents by 2030. As a popular retiree destination, the population of those aged 60+ is estimated to increase by 45% by 2029. As people age, the dependence on quality health care close to home increases.

As a beautiful tourist attraction, we see visitors during all four seasons – and they are active, taking advantage of our ski hills, hiking trails, cycling routes and waterways. As the population grows, our Hospital’s need for state-of-the-art equipment and technology grows as well. With the support of generous community members, we can ensure we all have outstanding care – for life.

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

Meet Paul & Karen Jackson, both of whom were born and raised in Collingwood. In the 1970s they moved to Toronto so Karen could attend nursing school. They moved back to town in 1981 when Karen was offered a job as a nurse on the surgical floor at the Collingwood G&M Hospital (CGMH). Karen worked for both the surgical and obstetrics departments during her 38 years at CGMH.

When Karen’s mother passed away, the Jacksons decided to make a donation to CGMH in her memory. “this was meant to be a one-time gift but then we thought: why not give monthly instead?”, explains Paul. And that is how they started their monthly giving journey.

Paul & Karen thought it was important to make a monthly contribution. “Our donations are not large, but if there’s a big number of us doing the same thing, it all adds up,” says Paul. “we are all in this together.”

Karen has seen the impact of donations as a nurse, and both she and Paul, alongside so many monthly donors, understand that steady, ongoing funds allow the hospital to plan and allocate resources where they are needed most.

The Monthly Giving Club is made up of a compassionate, caring, group of individuals who make smaller gifts on a monthly basis. When we make small gifts together, we create big impact for care here in South Georgian Bay.

JAX PAYS IT FORWARD

Her parents wanted a strong name for their daughter and she’s a real fighter.

Jax was born with a condition called ‘supraventricular tachycardia which effects her heart rhythm as well as her heart rate……irregularly fast and erratic that impacts the heart’ upper chambers.

Since birth Jax has frequently gone into episodes that spike her heart rate as high as 320 beats per minute which requires immediate hospitalization and for her to be medically cardioverted to reset her heart to a normal rhythm

Jax’s parents spent the first six months of her life in hospital. Due to Jax’s (SVT) everyone at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital knows her and is prepared for any emergency…….she is known as a ‘frequent flyer’ amongst the staff.

The first time Jax was rushed to CGMH, the team found the right IV site, administered her meds and reset her heart rate all within 40 minutes (vs a typical timeline of 3 hrs)…..and that’s why the Davenports now live in Collingwood. Jax is a real warrior.

CGMH trains for these (hopefully) unlikely events. Led by Dr. Guscott, Dr. Bolton, nursing staff and a Respiratory Therapist, CGMH runs numerous scenarios and drills around taking care of critically ill patients.

CGMH relies on the support of community fundraisers to ensure that the best possible care is provided to all of our patients. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of people just like Jax.
